Steel Samurai has arrived.
It had been quite a few years since I last saw Steel Samurai. The evolution this band has gone through really took me back as soon as they took the stage. This band had a unified sound that spoke to their devotion of playing hours and hours of practice together every single week. From the arrangements to the timing in the performance, this band has reached a whole new level.
This concert features the first time that Mega Man 9’s Concrete Man & Tornado Man were played in a performance!
This performance spoke to not only to the love and devotion of video game music, but also the bond these musicians have with each other. I know every VGM fan out there will love what this band has worked so hard to become with the new EP releasing at BitGen!!
- Metroid – Ending
- The Criminal Justice System
- Steel Samurai
- Gate of Thunder
- MegaMan 9 – Concrete Man
Steel Samurai’s current form is a five member band fronted by two lead guitars, a killer keyboardist, finally bass and drums rounding out the rhythm section.
- Bass: Darmock (founder)
- Guitar: Austin aka Katamari (WASD),
- Guitar: John
- Keyboard: Ben (Forever)
- Drums: Jason (Baltimore Rock Opera Society aka Bros)
Outside the noisy halls of the Greater Philadelphia Expo center, we found a corner to discuss the origins of the band, how the “Greatest Keyzord Player Evar” craigslist ad changed the band’s sound, how Steel Samurai’s name has origins in Armadillo Tank, how the amazing arrangements come to fruition, the benefits of in person practicing, mandatory band bonding anime nights, the evolution of Steel Samurai, government security clearances, the Mega Man 9 soundtrack and arrangement, and the new EP!!
