Shatterhand is friggin awesome!
It's a mix of Double Dragon with the pace of Contra, and a little bit of the platforming elements from games such as Mario and Megaman.
Shatterhand is not a 1 dimensional game however. There are elements of RPG's, and a help
Area A - You get dropped off in this industrial wasteland, reminicent of the Contra hangar level to a certain extent. You go through this level left-to-right punching everything in sight. You not only punch enemies (they EXPLODE YES!!!) you punch walls, power-ups, coins, bosses, basically everything in sight!
One of the coolest things about Shatterhand is the way you power-up and restore health. There are these little stations that are flashing red with either a power-up or it restores your life bar. However, in order to get the goodies from the station you notice there is a number on the station.
When you punch a bad guy and he explodes, a coin is left. A small coin is worth 50G, and a large coin is worth 500G. Power-ups are 100G
If you have enough coin, you can activate the power-up/health pack by pressing the down arrow on the NES D-pad. I did have some difficulty figuring out how this worked since the 2nd time I tried this I did not have enough G.
Finally I got it to work after trying it out when I did have enough coin, and you are now wearing the powered up red vest!!
This vest is handed down from many generations, and is not actually red, but blood stained from all the battles which it has witnessed.
Well that may not be true, but what is true is that enemies are now easier to kill and destruction comes much easier!!
Boss Battle - Area A
Once again, this game rules. You enter dramatically into the boss' chamber, and then suddenly the beast appears..... More to come soon, stay tuned!!
